Board Zones

Zone 1: All area starting two miles north of Highway 70, extending to the district's boundary line to the north, with the exception of parts of two sections north of Prairie Valley Road. Starting two miles west of Newport Road and ending 4 miles west of Newport Road, with Anderson Road being the north border of this excluded area.
Zone 2: Area north of Highway 70 for one mile, starting at north East Street extending west to Price Road, area two miles north of  Highway 70, starting at Jay Norman Road and extending west to Texaco Road. Also, parts of two sections, three miles north of Highway 70 with Texaco Road being the west border and extending east two miles. Also included is a mile section south of Highway 70 with Newport Road being the east boundary, Myall Road the south boundary and Cheek Road the west boundary.
Zone 3: Includes all area south of Myall Road with the school district line being the west, south and east boundaries. It also includes all area south of Highway 70 and west of Cheek Road. It also includes the area one mile north of Highway 70 starting at Price Road and extending three miles west. Also included is the area two miles north of Highway 70 starting at Texaco Road and extending west two miles.
Zone 4: Includes two sections south of Highway 70 with Brock Road being the east boundary, Myall Road the south boundary and Newport Road the west boundary.

Zone 5: Includes area north of Highway 70 for one mile starting at Jay Norman Road and extending west to North East Street. It also includes a half-mile section south of Highway 70 with Brock Road being the west boundary, Mayall Road the south boundary and the east boundary being the school district line.

Qualifications of Candidates for Office

To be eligible to be a candidate for member of the board of education of a school district, a person must have resided in the district for at least six (6) months preceding the first day of the filing period, and have been a registered voter registered with the county election board at an address located within the geographical boundaries of the district for six months preceding the first day of the filing period.

No person shall be eligible to be a candidate for or elected to be a member of the board of education of a school district unless the person has been awarded a high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency.

A person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor involving embezzlement or a felony under the laws of the state or of the United States or who has entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere to such misdeanor involving embezzlement or felony or who has been convicted of a crime in another state which would have been a misdemeanor involving embezzlement or a felony under the laws of this state or has entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere to such crime shall not be eligible to be a candidate for or be elected to any state, county, municipal, judicial, or school office or any other elective office of any political subdivision of this state for a period of fifteen years following completion of his sentence or during the pendency of an appeal of such conviction or plea.

No person shall be eligible to be a candidate for or serve on a board of education if he or she is currently employed by the school district governed by the board of education or is related within the second degree by affinity or consanguinity to any other member of the board of education or to any employee of the school district.  The following are relatives within the second degree:  A candidate’s spouse, child, child’s spouse, parent, parent’s spouse, grandchild, grandchild’s spouse, grandparent, grandparent’s spouse, brother, brother’s spouse, sister, sister’s spouse, spouse’s child, spouse’s parents, spouse’s grandchild, spouse’s grandparents, spouse’s brother or brother-in-law, and spouse’s sister or sister-in-law.

Candidates must affirm that upon being elected as a member of the Board of Education, within fifteen (15) months of election, they will complete at least twelve (12) hours of instruction on education issues, including school finance,Oklahoma education laws, and ethics, duties and responsibilities of district board of education members.

Voters Eligible to Vote

To be eligible to vote, a voter must be registered with the county election board at an address within the geographical boundaries of the district.
