Eclipse Statement

In regards to the eclipse on Monday August 21st:

Lone Grove Middle School consistently strives to put the safety of our students as a major priority at all times.  We are currently educating our students on the dangers of looking at the sun during the eclipse as well as any other time.  We ask your help in reinforcing this with your students at home as well.  Lone Grove Middle School will have a regular school day on Monday with a few differences.  We will have extra duty teachers monitor students while outside to try to prevent any student from unsafe activities.

We feel this is a very special event and a fantastic learning opportunity for our students.  Our science classes have spent the past few days making shoe box/cereal box devices that will allow students to safely view the shadows cast by the eclipse while looking down and away from the sun and not toward the sky.  This way students can gain a better understanding of solar system movements while keeping them safe.  If parents would like to come be a part of this event, we would absolutely welcome that.  The schedule for the event will be as follows:

Coach Brown’s Science Classes will go out at 12:00

Mrs. Ayles’ Science Classes will go out at 12:45

Mrs. Patty’s Science Classes will go out at 1:45

Again, we will do our utmost to ensure students are safe during this time, but if you do not want your student to participate in this event, please let us know.  You can send a note with your student, or call the office.

Thank you
